How the categories actually differ

The two differences that matter are how long a round lasts and how many decisions you make. A slot round takes seconds and asks one thing of you — the stake. A live table runs on the dealer's clock, so betting opens and closes at a fixed point in every round.

The other difference is the shape of the bet. Baccarat is mostly a choice of side; roulette has a whole layout of positions inside and outside the number grid. If you enjoy planning a bet before placing it, roulette is usually the easier start.

Where should a beginner start?

If none of the rules are familiar yet, baccarat is the quickest to follow because there are so few of them. Slots suit anyone who would rather try something at a small stake first. Either way, read how to set a budget before you start.
